About the CDA

Established in terms of The Prevention for and Treatment of Substance Abuse Act 2008 (Act No.70 of 2008), Central Drug Authority serves as an advisory body with a mandate of fighting against substance abuse.

The CDA supports initiatives and efforts of relevant stakeholders to reduce the scourge of substance abuse and related social ills and ensures that there is coherence, integration and collaboration between such stakeholders in the management of substance abuse in the country.

Members of the Board are expected to work with key stakeholders including the Department of Social Development, law enforcement authorities and the Non-Profit Organisations (NPO) sector to address substance abuse and its effects on families and communities.
