Substance use is an important health and social issue in South Africa. Findings from local research need to inform local responses. The symposium intends to improve understanding of the scope of substance use and related consequences in Gauteng, as well as the outcomes of interventions that have been implemented to support people who use substances, and prevent and reduce substance-related harms. A specific effort is being made to include people who use substances in this symposium to share their experiences relating to substance use and interventions in the province.
